"I'm originally from Calgary, AB, and in 2016, I made the move to Vancouver to pursue my career in architecture. However, I soon realized that it wasn't the right path for me, and that led me to explore other opportunities, eventually finding my way into the landscaping field and on to the North Shore.
In 2019, I found myself working for a small garden company and steadily improving my skills. It was during those long summer days spent pulling weeds alongside my best friend and jumping from one client's property to another that I began to see life in a new light. I started to notice opportunities hidden beneath rocks and buried in the dirt. Homeowners would approach us, asking if we could handle one-off jobs on the weekends – tasks like weed-pulling, prepping properties for open houses, or helping an elderly neighbor maintain their garden. It struck me that there was a gap in the market for these occasional gardening projects. People wanted a professional touch, but not on a regular basis. The industry norm is all about securing contracts and long-term commitments, leaving those with simpler gardening needs to scour online marketplaces for hourly gardeners or rely on word-of-mouth recommendations. I knew there was a better way to help those seeking straightforward garden help. I decided to legitimize this service and transform it into a full-fledged business. So, in 2021, I took the leap, bought a used pickup truck, quit my job, and started Landlady Landscaping.
My personal journey, which includes celebrating two years of sobriety in 2023, has played a significant role in my success. I've become a better version of myself than I could have ever imagined: dependable, punctual, strong, and grounded. The power of a clear and focused mind has transformed my life in ways I didn't think were possible, and I'm taking Landlady Landscaping along for the ride. It's an incredible feeling! This transformation has positioned me to grow my business thoughtfully and responsibly. My clients are amazing people, and I see their satisfaction as a reflection of my hard work.
I have a bright vision for my business and myself. One day, I aspire to be a leader in this industry and expand into other regions. There are markets I've yet to tap into, and I'm confident that this business will continue to thrive in the future. As a young entrepreneur, there have been moments of doubt when I thought, "This is the end." but I love problem-solving and moving forward with new strategies. It's those challenging moments that have actually propelled me forward, and I'm genuinely excited about the future. I hope to inspire others to feel the same way.
